Continuing Education (CE) Recertification Requirements
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board provides nationwide certification for pharmacy technicians. After passing the PTCB exam, CPhTs must complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education (CE) during each two-year recertification cycle. Any CE hours earned after January 1, 2015 must be in pharmacy technician-specific subject matter.
- For recertification: 1 hour in pharmacy law and 1 hour in patient safety are required
- For reinstatement: 2 hours in pharmacy law and 1 hour in patient safety are required
- All CE hours must be completed within the two-year cycle — no carryover to future cycles
- CE hours completed before certification is granted cannot be applied toward recertification
- Keep CE certificates for at least one year for potential State Board of Pharmacy audits
Always check with your State Board of Pharmacy to confirm any additional individual state requirements.
Free CE Websites
The following websites offer free continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians:
NABP e-Profile ID
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should obtain their NABP e-Profile ID at MyCPEmonitor.net. After setting up your e-Profile, you will receive a unique NABP e-Profile ID (e-PID). ACPE-accredited CE providers will ask for your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth (in MMDD format) when you register for a CPE activity or submit a credit request.
